NEW NOVEL RELEASE –

Angel

by one of our Founding Authors, D. K. McLaughlin

About Angel …

She’s the innocent from a convent school.
He’s the ruthless billionaire who owns everything—except her.

Stephanie Blaire just graduated from Our Lady of Mercy, the all-girls Catholic boarding school and college where she’s spent her entire life under the watchful eyes of nuns, while her parents were missionaries in West Africa. She finally steps into her own life—with a new job at Zhukov Enterprises, in La Jolla, California.

Her new boss?
Xander Zhukov—CEO, billionaire, and devastatingly handsome.

From the moment they shake hands, the chemistry is undeniable. Stephanie feels it in her bones—and Xander’s smirk says he knows it too. But he’s her boss. Off-limits. Dangerous.

He’s also hiding a darker truth: Xander is a powerful member of the Russian Bratva, with enemies across continents and a past soaked in blood. She’s everything he shouldn’t want—too sweet, too innocent, too good. But when a business trip to Germany turns into something much more personal, neither of them can fight the fire between them.

She’s his angel—light in a world of shadows.
But what happens when that world comes for her?

ANGEL is a full-length, high-heat standalone romance featuring: Mafia secrets, opposites attract, CEO/boss romance, surprise pregnancy, age gap, and guaranteed HEA.

Perfect for fans of Cora Reilly, Sophie Lark, and dark billionaire alpha heroes.

Commitment Ain’t Easy

If your plans include writing the great American novel, it’s time to move forward. Keep in mind whether you’re a ‘pantser’ who writes organically or a ‘plotter’ who works from an outline it helps to set objectives regarding productivity and timelines.

Workspace: For example, what’s the best way for you to be productive? You may need to start by creating or finding a space that works for you. Some writers prefer a quiet home office, sitting in front of a computer, others prefer to scribble on the back of a napkin at their local Starbucks.  Choose what works best for you and your powers of concentration and inspiration.

Pacing: If you’re stuck on how to get started, remember there’s satisfaction in choosing a title, conjuring up characters, or putting words down on a piece of paper. The idea is to make progress and keep yourself motivated. Nothing has to be written in stone, and you (or your editor) will make changes later in the next draft anyway. So, there’s a time for creating and a different time for editing. Skip perfection. Get the words down. Step by step. Writing a novel is a marathon, not a sprint.

Scheduling: Deadlines are part of goal setting and making measurable progress. To help develop a writing routine, set aside 15 minutes and record what is currently on your mind about your novel. If you enjoy what you accomplish, continue for another 5 minutes. Maintain a similar schedule every day, based on time or word count, perhaps a goal for writing 20 minutes or for writing 1,000 words.

If you’re working against a deadline, set progress goals that signify, at least to you, that you’ve produced enough content each session to easily reach the word count, style, and conclusion the media expects.

Atta Boy and Atta Girl: It’s all right to accept some praise from yourself if you’re happy with what you accomplish every session. Go ahead and congratulate yourself, draw a line underneath the word count for the day, or make a checkmark across the top of the page. Then tomorrow, for another 15 to 30 minutes, write what’s on your mind, reflect on it, and give yourself a pat on the back.

It adds up: After a few weeks of these sessions, forget about time limits and keep on writing. If you like what you’re creating, don’t deprive yourself of the pleasure, and keep writing until you’re satisfied with what you have on the page. In a few months, return to what you wrote initially and compare it to what you’ve accomplished so far. You will find you have recorded some incredible ideas, made big strides toward finishing your story, and may be ready to submit it to an agent, editor, or publisher.

Congratulations on your efforts, and please send a note to me about your progress at: artwilliamswrites@gmail.com

Thanks

Can You Be Part of the Few!

Not everyone who wants to write a novel makes it happen. Many people would like to write a book but only about 1% of them will accomplish it, according to research. It took me two years to write my first novel which will be published this summer. My novel started as a short story and started growing. I wasn’t concerned about a deadline. I would finish when I finished, but now I’m writing a sequel, and I want to complete it in the next few months, so I’m being better organized, I think.

Some aspiring writers wonder if it’s all worthwhile, the hours of writing and all the creative brain power consumed while penning a novel, plus all the effort to get published, plus the marketing tasks. Hmmm … now I’m starting to think 1% is pretty realistic, considering all the aspects.

I asked one of our Founding Authors if writing is a money-making proposition. She laughed and said I may want to consider writing to be a hobby. So, I expect I’ll consider it a hobby for now and if some money comes my way I’ll be happily surprised.

Her comment also got me thinking. Do authors make money and how much. So, I looked the topic up on Google, and here’s what I found after I asked: “Does an author make money”. The following summaries explain it easier than a narrative.

Traditional Publishing

Typical % of sales price

Paperback           5-8%

(So, if your paperback sells for $15.99, the author nets $0.80-$1.30 per book)

Hardcover           15%

EBook                   20-25%

Audiobook          25%

Self-Publishing

Typical $/% of sales price

Amazon KDP      $2.99-9.99

Apple Books       Max: 70%

Most types of books

Traditional Publishing

Rare publisher advance*

$1,000-$5,000

*To be earned out, repaid from book sales,

before Royalties begin.

Self-Publishing

*All production is up to the author

Average income: $2,500 – $6,500/year

*Author manages design, formatting,

and marketing, including: ISPN source,

legal, cover, pages, editing, images, print

production and more.

So, if you sell 10,000 paperback copies of your novel, working with a traditional publishing house, the income, over  time, may amount to $8,000 to $13,000, based on 10,000 books x .80-$1.30 each. Why 10,000, because the New York Times requires a minimum of 5,000 book sales in a single week to make their Bestseller list.

Whether you are writing a novel in order to unleash your creative energies and send important messages to the world or you are trying to make money, or both, I hope you will be part of the few people who succeed at reaching your goals. I’ll keep you posted about my progress and what I learn along the way. Something tells me that marketing will be a key to selling.

Have a great day and write me anytime at: artwilliamswrites@gmail.com
